Barefoot style shoes are, simply put, shoes designed for our feet! They are orthopedically appropriate, and also have more minimal cushion, with varying ranges of sole thickness, the thinnest of which are close to being barefoot. Barefoot style footwear has a wide toe box that allows room for toes to move and flex while we walk, (aka, it’s foot shaped instead of shoe shaped!), has no heel wedge (referred to as “zero drop”), so that is is flat across, just like our feet are, and have a flexible, minimalist sole. This allows for our feet to continue to strengthen even while we’re wearing shoes, and is especially important for little feet still growing and building up muscles.
